This course offers a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to the principles and practices of water resources status reporting, with a strong focus on both water quality and quantity. Learners will gain practical insights into water quality compliance for both potable and wastewater systems, along with strategies to optimise raw water quality at the catchment, abstraction, and impoundment stages.
Students will explore the full scope of incident management protocols—learning how to develop and implement procedures to effectively respond to water quality failures or contamination events across different water sources. A key feature of this course is its applied field training, including dam sampling techniques using boats, piloting and launching boats safely, and sampling with specialist equipment like hose pump and depth samplers. Practical sessions will also cover on-site water analysis, sample storage best practices, and maintaining sample integrity, often conducted in collaboration with Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) teams.
The course further empowers learners with knowledge of water use compliance and licensing, equipping them to understand and manage legal and regulatory requirements related to water use. Whether you aim to work in environmental monitoring, water utility services, or regulatory enforcement, this course offers critical technical skills and real-world applications in water resource management.
