Green Engineering and Industrial Ecology

The Green Engineering and Industrial Ecology course offers a cutting-edge perspective on how engineering principles can be applied to address environmental challenges, climate change, and sustainability in industrial and infrastructure settings. This interdisciplinary course combines environmental science, engineering, and economics to help students understand and evaluate the full impact of human activities on ecosystems—and develop solutions that align with global sustainability goals, including the UN 2050 carbon emission targets.

Through practical, analytical, and systems-based learning, students will explore powerful tools such as life cycle assessments for water and energy, material flow analysis, cost-benefit and life cycle costing (CAPEX and OPEX), biomimicry, and various forms of strategic, technical, and financial evaluation. The course also guides learners in developing real-world water business cases and investment programmes for integrated rural and urban infrastructure.

Ideal for future sustainability engineers, environmental planners, or industrial strategists, this course builds the skills needed to design efficient, low-impact systems while contributing to global and local efforts to reduce carbon footprints and improve
